Live from the VMA Red Carpet: It's a Circus!
MTV's Video Music Awards are hot. Literally. It feels like 100 degrees on the red carpet here on the Paramount lot in Hollywood.
But the hot topic for the day: Britney Spears! Will she walk the carpet? Is she going to perform? Or, perhaps, is she going to open the show atop an elephant?
Yes, there is an elephant being hosed down outside the awards. And remember, there was an elephant in Spears and host Russell Brand's promo spots for the show, as in "the elephant in the room."
The red carpet is now rolling. Read on for all the highlights....
Estelle Defends Kanye West's Ego
Not everyone thinks Kanye West needs to rein in his attitude...in fact, Estelle (who sings "American Boy" with him), thinks more people should be so cocky.
"People say what they say about his ego, but he's very sure of himself and I think that's a great way to be," she told E! News at Belvedere's dinner party at Dakota, which was held in her honor. "I think more people should follow him, and be more cocky and more proud of their work."
She also wasn't surprised by his decision to close the VMAs tonight, despite him swearing that he'd never perform for MTV again after being shut out last year.
"I'm sure it was all planned," she said. "I think people want to see what he'll bring after all of that and I think they're going to be pleasantly surprised and happy with it."
Also getting a second chance to redeem herself after last year's VMA debacle: Britney Spears. The pop star is opening the show, but not performing per se.
The VMAs air tonight at 9 pm ET/PT.
Telethon Stands Up With More Than $100 Million
Even in a tough economy, people will open their wallets for a great cause!
Organizers say Friday night's historic, star-studded Stand Up to Cancer telethon helped push donations to the charity past the $100 million mark.
"On behalf of the Stand Up To Cancer leadership team, we are tremendously grateful to everyone who contributed to make this historic event a success," said Lisa Paulsen, head of the Entertainment Industry Foundation, the charitable organization behind Stand Up to Cancer. "This money will go directly to funding the research programs necessary to defeat this insidious disease."
More than 100 stars from music, sports, TV and film, including cancer survivors Sheryl Crow, Christina Applegate and Lance Armstrong, came together for Friday's live telethon, which was co-emceed by rival network news anchors Katie Couric, Charles Gibson and Brian Williams.
Channing Tatum Engaged!
Channing Tatum has smooth moves on and off the dance floor -- just ask his new fiancée, Jenna Dewan.
The 28-year-old hottie popped the question to the equally hot Dewan, 27, on Friday while the couple was in Maui, People magazine is reporting. To the bride-to-be's surprise, Tatum had invited their close friends to the island to witness the proposal.
The pair met in 2005 on the set of the hit dance movie Step Up and started dating after the film wrapped.
'Bangkok' Not-So Dangerous
The fall box office sure fell all right.
After a $4 billion-grossing summer, Hollywood slogged through its worst weekend of the year, per studio estimates compiled today by Exhibitor Relations.
The weekend was distinguished, if not defined, by Bangkok Dangerous, the new Nicolas Cage action movie, which finished first with the lowest gross for a No. 1 movie in five years ($7.8 million).
If estimates hold, the $45 million Bangkok Dangerous will barely have had enough fire power to outgross the debuts of 2008 bombs such as Mad Money ($7.7 million) and Space Chimps ($7.2 million).

Pal: Ashlee and Pete Expecting Twins
Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson-Wentz could find themselves facing another round of twin rumors.
Pete’s buddy, hip-hop artist Tyga, says that the parents-to-be are expecting not one, but two bundles of joy.
“They’re having twins,” Tyga said in an exclusive interview yesterday at the House of Hype’s pre-VMA barbeque. “They’re really happy.”
Either Tyga spilled the beans or he’s repeating an internet rumor that Pete started earlier this summer…
Gary Coleman's Truck Hits a Fan
Fans of Gary Coleman might want to think twice about trying to snap a photo.
The pint-sized actor is in big trouble this morning for allegedly hitting a man with his truck outside a Utah bowling alley.
Coleman's bodyguard/friend told local reporters that right around closing time, Colt Rushton, 24, asked to take a photo of Coleman, 40, and his wife, Shannon Price-Coleman, who were finishing up a game. When Gary said no, Rushton refused to back down and started harassing the on-again-off-again newlyweds.

Prosecutors have filed new charges against 40-Year-Old Virgin actor Shelly Malil, who is accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend 20 times on August 10 in San Marcos, Calif.
During a Superior Court hearing Friday, the 43-year-old actor was charged with residential burglary and assault with a deadly weapon for also allegedly attacking another man who was present during the incident.
Prosecutors say Malil stabbed his ex, Kendra Beebe, 35, at her home while her two children slept. A man with Beebe at the time grabbed one knife but Malil found another and continued the attack until a neighbor disarmed him. Beebe is expected to recover from the deep wounds to her lungs and throat.

No Country made more than $160 million and won four Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
VMA Host Russell Brand Talks Stardom, Bunnies
He's hosting MTV's Video Music Awards tonight, but most people who know British funnyguy Russell Brand only know him as that crazy boyfriend from Forgetting Sarah Marshall. I chatted with the wild-haired Brand this week about making it big and hitting the Playboy Mansion. Check out the clip for the full story.
Burning Q's: Slick Jonas Duds & Baby-Pic Dollars
I feel like a total creep asking this (I'm too old to be thinking about them!), but I'm a fashion student and I simply must know: Do the Jonas Brothers have a stylist? What are some of the labels they wear most?
—Chelsey, Austin, Texas
The Jonas Brothers say they have a stylist named Michelle Tomaszewski. She puts them in L. Lindeberg and Dior. Just in case you hope to run into Nick at your hometown Dior boutique, let me crush that teen fever dream forthwith. "She brings the clothes to us," Nick told the Virginian-Pilot in July.
Really? Is Jennifer Lopez the only A-lister who doesn't smoke?
